Consider this something of a Summary of the Summary. This is accurate to the start of Chapter 5
Chapter 1: Several weeks ago, a group of hobgoblins calling themselves the New Red Hand of Doom attacked Brindol and made off with prisoners and items from the Hall of Great Valor. The assault on Rivenroar Castle dismatled the Red Hand. Their leader, Sinruth, held a letter from "The Emissary" which instructed Sinruth to attack Brindol. The relics taken were for show, the people taken were likely to have been fed to the Wight in the basement of the Castle. [Time elasped: 1 week]
Chapter 2: Immediately thereafter, the party heard about a Call to Arms in Overlook due to the danger of an approaching Orc Army. The party rushed to Overlook [Time: 1 week] where they found dozens of other adventuring parties also answering the call (including the Freeriders and the Farstriders). The party was instructed to rescue the monks at the Monastery of the Sundered Chain, the Farstriders were told to seal the tunnels under the Stonehome Mountains, while everyone else went to reinforce the fort called Bordrin's Watch. The party found the Monastery in tatters, the Orcs already having killed everyone there except Kalad, a Paladin of Moradin, who implored the party to follow up on the Farstriders' task of sealing the Vents. Upon arriving at the Vents, the party discovers the Farstriders have been killed, and they finish the job, and kill Tusk, the Orc leader, and find a brass key, the purpose of which is unknown. [Time: 1 week]
[Interlude lasting about a week. Total time elapsed: 4 weeks]
Chapter 3: Following an assassination attempt on the party, they learn someone named Modra is out to kill them and that the brass key they hold has value to whomever this is. Asking around in Overlook gets the party that Modra is a Dark Creeper with ties to Shadar-Kai and Lost Ones, a local gang in Overlook. The party runs into Reniss, an Elf Ranger who is looking to kill Modra herself, and she has a lead to the Happy Beggar Inn, where in the basement, the party accidentally trips a portal which takes them to the Shadowfell. The region of the Shadowfell the party finds themselves in is home to the war camp of Umbraforge, a great tower, and a large foundry. The entire encampment seems to be preparing for an interplanar war. Asking around, the party discovers that Modra is wanted by Sarshan, Shadar-Kai arms dealer and the Lord of Umbraforge. Apparently Modra used to be one of Sarshan's Lieutenants but went behind Sarshan's back in accepting a job that Sarshan had turned down; supplying Orcs that were raiding Bordrin's Watch! The party is able to track Modra down to the foundry in Umbraforge, where they slay him, and then infiltrate Sarshan's Tower. Eventually, Sarshan finds and confronts them, offering the party their lives if they join him. Explosions then rock the tower and the foundry goes up in flames; Sarshan withdraws his offer, and the party kills one of his weapon masters in order to escape. Passing information to the Overlook authorities, Sarshan's arms running operations in Overlook and Brindol begin to be dismantled.
[Time: 1 week. Total time elapsed: 5 weeks]
Chapter 4: As part of that dismantling process, Kalad, now a Sergeant in the Overlook Guard, ask to the party's help in raiding a warehouse with connections to Sarshan. The party hits the warehouse, killing the defenders there and throwing it open to Overlook's investigation. The party is then contacted by Bram Ironfell, a high-ranking member of the Elsir Consortium trade guild. Bram says that he believes the warehouse raided by the party contains a link to the legendary Karak Lode. The wealth contained within the lode would be invaluable to Overlook in the coming war. The party discovers the rituals necessary to open the portal, pass through it, and defeat the Guardian Naga and the Red Dragon lairing there. They also find a letter from Sarshan to the Naga, Queen Shephatiah, saying that he is shutting down the part of his arms running network supported by the Elsir Consortium and Bram Ironfell, and that she is to begin working with someone named General Zithiruun. Enraged at the connection between Sarshan and Bram Ironfell, the party hastily returns to Overlook to confront Ironfell, but he has already skipped town. Operations to mine the Karak Lode, however, begin and Overlook begins to arm for war.
