I think this applies to most people on this board, but I had a great idea and I thought it would be good to unify stories.
For those of us telling the world that the Zombie Apocalypse happened on December 21, 2012:
At 4:03am EST, an experimental drug designed to boost human metabolism and immune capabilities was accidentally released into the general public. Corpses in nearby graveyards quickly began rising. The chemical itself didn't last long in the air, but it was long enough to raise several dozen zombies. These quickly swarmed over local populations. Wounds caused by the zombies transmitted the drug into the victims. If the wounds were severe enough, the drug activated and turned the person into a zombie as the wounds were healed.
A state of emergency was called. The National Guard and other local military units attempted to quell the swarm of zombies even as they saw normal people turned before their eyes. They reacted too slowly. Every organized military group that attempted to counter the zombie threat was defeated - turning many. Small groups of people banned together to stay safe. Many hid in their homes with the doors and windows barred. Some went out to help others.
By Noon, most of the population of the eastern seaboard had been turned. The now massive army of zombies began streaming west. The experimental drug was able to heal the zombies' muscles as they ran, making them tireless and completely immune to overexertion. The tidal wave of undead spread across the Midwest, picking up more members everywhere it stretched. By 6pm, the swarm had reached the Rocky Mountains. The cold and altitude barely slowed the force down. The first wave of zombies was spotted along the west coast cities at 5pm PST.
Groups of scientists all over the U.S. connected online. They knew they had to find a way to reverse the effect of this drug. Little by little, the different groups across the country began to go offline. The zombies, now finished with the majority of the population, were seeking any survivors. One group of scientists finally combined the efforts of the others into a viable antidote.
At 11:47pm EST, they gathered with the last resistance force of humans in Nevada and loaded the antidote into a ballistic missile. The zombies swarmed towards them as the final preparations were made. The last resistance of humans in the state gathered to protect the scientists fell one by one to zombie attackers. The final living human was able to hit the launch button before being overwhelmed.
The rocket flew into the upper atmosphere and exploded, covering the entire U.S. in the chemical antidote. Within 30 minutes, the zombies were no more. Those who had been human were returned to normal, the first corpses were dead once more. All found that they had no memory of the events of the previous day. Only those who hid or fought and survived without being turned remember the events of December 21st.
The Mayans were right, but we are still here.
